Some of the projects about Endangered Languages

Enduring Voices Project [1] is carried out by National Geographic and Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages. The aim of the project is to find out the places where endangered languages are spoken, to prevent their extinction, to document linguistic and cultural materails for the identification of their geographical distribution, to understand how linguistic variation feeds also biological variation and to raise awareness on language deaths. Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages [2]The goal of the institution is to document, protect and revive a language with the support of linguists and society.

The Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project, HRELP [3]: The project is supported by Arcadia and under the auspices of School of Oriental and African Studies. The aim of HRELP is to document and protect endangered languages, to train the staff for documentation and to conserve the collected data. MA and Ph.D. programs are available (Austin and Sallabank, 2011:2).

DoBeS (Dokumentation Bedrohter Sprachen/ Documentation of Endangered Languages) [4] The project is supported by Volkswagen. Data collected from various languages can be found on the website. Tofa language is one of these languages.

Endangered Language Program/ Rosetta Stone: [5] Rosetta Stone initiated the program to prevent language deaths and revive the endangered ones. The languages chosen for revival and the relevant data can be found on the website.

Although there are few studies on endangered Turkic languages in the Turkic world and Turkey, already available systematic and holistic studies are far from being satisfactory.

Endangered Languages- Last Voices Project, which brings together many researchers from various countries, is the first one Turkic world in terms of its subject and scope. Based on offficial  documents and  a set of  acknowledged criteria, this project is deciated to study the phenomenon of endangered Turkic languages adopting a holistic and a comprehensive understanding.towards them all. All the documents and studies are  meant to be shared  both by the academics and the public.
